Table 6.1 The outperforming scoreboard assessment

Yes No

Do you have clear goals for the year?

Are they measurable?

Do you have KPIs (topic explained later in this chapter) that accurately capture progress against those goals?

Are your KPIs tracked:

In real-time?

Daily?

Weekly?

Monthly?

Are people held accountable for accomplishing their goals?

Do you have incentive plans that align pay with performance?

Do you have monthly business reviews?

Are you communicating progress to the entire organization no less than quarterly?

How are you doing in measuring and sharing your results?

If you had 10 to 11 questions marked “Yes,” congratulations! You are performing well. But don’t stop reading. There are a number of tips that will help you get even better.

If you had eight to nine questions marked “Yes,” you are doing well and just need to shore up a few areas. You’ll find actionable steps you can take now to focus your organization on performance.

If you had seven or fewer questions marked “Yes,” you have lots of opportunity to increase performance in your organization. With some effort, this is one of the easiest areas to gain traction quickly and will have the biggest impact on your organization. Let’s get started!
